Course Description: 

​Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office is a continuing education course designed to prepare dental professionals to recognize, manage, and respond effectively to medical emergencies that may occur in clinical practice. Although uncommon, emergencies such as syncope, allergic reactions, respiratory distress, hypoglycemia, cardiac events, and other acute conditions require immediate and appropriate intervention. This course provides an overview of common medical emergencies encountered in dental settings, including risk assessment, early recognition of signs and symptoms, and evidence-based management protocols. Participants will review emergency drug kits, basic life support principles, team communication, and office preparedness strategies to promote patient safety and improve outcomes. Upon completion, learners will be better equipped to respond confidently and efficiently in emergency situations within the dental office.

Instructional Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

1. Identify common medical emergencies that may occur in the dental office and recognize their early signs and symptoms.

2. Explain appropriate management protocols and immediate interventions for specific emergency situations.

3. Demonstrate understanding of emergency equipment, medications, and preparedness procedures used in the dental setting.
